Probable Tomorrows
by Marvin Cetron & Owen Davies

Mini-review by Jim Young

This book by renowned futurist, Marvin Cetron and Owen Davies is the fourth book that these two have co-authored. It is at once frightening, frustrating and filled with hope. "Probable Tomorrows" is subtitled "How Science and Technology Will Transform Our Lives in the Next Twenty Years."

Sections that discuss nuclear waste disposal, global warming, water shortages and similar topics are frightening. The political obstacles to "progress" that the authors enumerate are terribly frustrating. But the promise of science and technology, particularly the chapter, "Medicine for the New Millenium", fills the reader with hope. All-in-all, "Probable Tomorrows" is a most readable book.
