Lessons
from the Future |
Mini-review by Jim Young |
The author of this book, subtitled "Making Sense of a Blurred World," is acclaimed as the world's leading futurist. Whether that is true or not, at 6' 7", he can claim to be the world's tallest futurist.
Four of his previous books are on my recommended reading list, so I qualify as a Stan Davis fan. "Lessons from the Future" is different from his previous books in two ways. First, it contains at least two dozen typos and other editorial errors. It's almost as if the manuscript never felt the hand of an editor.
Second, the author drew heavily on his previous books and articles. However, he did an excellent job of updating them and weaving them together into an interesting and useful fabric.
Each chapter begins with a short introduction that is followed by a one or two sentence "lesson from the future." These "lessons" are very important and insightful.
The typos and errors made reading this book frustrating, but the contents and thought-provoking ideas made it extremely worthwhile. My copy has lots of margin notes and underlines. I am certain that I'll refer to it often in the future.
